MOUNT ATHOS
Mount Athos is an autonomous and self-governing region in Greece, occupying most of the Athos Peninsula (50 km long and 8-12 km wide). It includes twenty Holy Monasteries and other monastic institutions and is today the largest and most important monastic state of the Orthodox Church with a long tradition.
